Your privacy, on the record
Mystery, She Sewed is run by Mandy Chamberlin from Auckland, New Zealand. This page explains what personal information we collect when you visit mysteryshesewed.com or open a case, what we do with it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, and where it applies to you, the EU and UK GDPR.
What we collect
- Order details. When you buy a mystery we collect your name, email address and billing details through WooCommerce so we can process your order and deliver your case files.
- Payment information. Payments are handled by Stripe (credit and debit cards) or PayPal. Your card details go directly to them over secure connections. We never see or store your full card number.
- Email details. When you join the Stitch Detectives list or purchase a case, your name and email address are stored in Klaviyo, the service we use to send your weekly clues and newsletters.
- Form submissions. When you file a verdict or a case report, we collect what you put in the form: your name, email, your answers, and any photos you choose to share.
- Cookies and site data. The site uses essential cookies to keep things like your cart working, and Klaviyo uses cookies to recognise your visits so your clue emails and any newsletters stay relevant. With your permission we also use analytics and advertising cookies, described in the next section.
How we use your information
- To deliver what you bought: order confirmation, your weekly clue emails, downloads and receipts.
- To reply when you contact us or file a case report.
- To send the newsletter, only if you have opted in. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing is instant.
- To feature your stitched evidence or case report on the site or our socials, but only when you have given us permission on the form.
- To keep the site secure and working properly.
We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and we do not send you marketing on behalf of other businesses.
Analytics and advertising cookies
When you first visit, a banner asks whether you are happy for us to use a couple of optional cookies. Nothing optional loads unless you choose Accept, and if you choose Essential only the site works exactly the same.
- Google Analytics. Helps us understand how people find and use the site, such as which pages get read and what countries visitors come from. IP addresses are anonymised and we do not see anything that identifies you personally.
- Meta (Facebook) pixel. Lets us show relevant ads on Facebook and Instagram and measure whether they work. Meta may link your visit to your Facebook or Instagram account under its own data policy.
If you change your mind later, clear this site’s cookies and site data in your browser and the banner will ask again on your next visit.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted services to run the site, and they only receive what they need to do their job:
- Stripe and PayPal for payment processing
- Klaviyo for email delivery and signup forms
- Google for anonymised site analytics, only if you accept optional cookies
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram) for advertising measurement, only if you accept optional cookies
- Our website hosting provider, which stores the site and its database securely
Some of these providers are based overseas, mainly in the United States. Where information leaves New Zealand it is protected by the safeguards in our agreements with those providers.
How long we keep it
We keep order records for as long as tax and business record rules require (currently seven years in New Zealand). Your email details stay on the list until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you. Form submissions are kept while they are useful for running the mysteries, and deleted on request.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. If you are in the EU or UK, you also have the rights the GDPR gives you, including access, erasure, portability and objection.
To do any of this, email mandy@mysteryshesewed.com and we will sort it out. If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
