These terms cover every purchase from Mystery, She Sewed. They are written in plain language on purpose. Buying a case means you agree to them.
1. Who I am
Mystery, She Sewed is run by Mandy Chamberlin, based in Auckland, New Zealand. When these terms say I or me, that is who you are dealing with. No call centres, no mystery about that part.
2. What you are buying
Each case is a digital machine embroidery mystery stitch-along. When you buy a case, you receive by email, over four weeks: story chapters, two original machine embroidery designs each week (eight in total), printable Detective’s Notebook pages, and the occasional bonus puzzle. Your four weeks start when you join. Nothing physical is posted to you. You will need your own embroidery machine, a 4×4 inch (10×10 cm) hoop, and basic supplies.
3. Prices and payment
Prices are shown in your local currency for New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the European Union, and in US dollars everywhere else. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay, in that currency. Prices may change over time, but never after you have bought.
4. Delivery
Cases are delivered by email from clues@mysteryshesewed.com. Add that address to your contacts so your clues do not end up in the spam folder, because a detective should never have to search the junk drawer for evidence. If anything does not arrive, email me and I will make sure it reaches you.
5. Your licence: what you can and cannot do with the designs
When you buy a case, you are buying a licence to use the designs, not the designs themselves. Here is what that means in practice.
You can:
- Stitch the designs as many times as you like, on your own machines, for yourself and for gifts.
- Sell finished, stitched items you have made yourself, in small handmade quantities, at markets, fairs or in your own shop. One pair of hands, not a production line.
One rule if you sell finished items: if the item shows a clue or could give away part of the mystery, it must carry a clear spoiler warning, for example Spoiler alert: contains evidence from Cold Case in Room 13. Every mystery stays open for future detectives, so please do not ruin the ending for someone still on the trail.
You cannot:
- Share, sell, gift, trade, or upload the design files themselves, in any format, to anyone, anywhere. This includes just emailing them to a friend.
- Share the story chapters, riddles, puzzles, notebook pages or solutions, publicly or privately. The mystery is the product, and it only works if it stays a mystery.
- Use the designs or story for mass production, print-on-demand, or commercial manufacturing.
- Claim the designs or story as your own work, or edit and re-digitise the designs to pass on.
The solver’s patch awarded for cracking a case is a personal trophy. Stitch it, wear it, frame it, brag about it. It is for personal use only and is not to be sold.
6. The story is copyright too
All stories, characters, riddles, puzzles, designs and artwork are the copyright of Mandy Chamberlin, trading as Mystery, She Sewed. Posting spoilers or solutions in public spaces spoils the fun for detectives who come after you, so please keep confessions to the private community spaces.
7. Refunds
Refunds are covered in the Refund Policy. The short version: no refunds for change of mind on digital goods, but faults, duplicates and delivery failures will always be put right.
8. Your consumer rights
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or Fair Trading Act 1986, or any consumer protections that apply where you live.
9. Liability
I take real care with every file and every story, but to the extent the law allows, my liability for any claim connected to a case is limited to the amount you paid for it. I am not liable for damage caused by factors outside the files themselves, such as machine faults, incorrect stabiliser choices, or fabric that fights back.
10. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms from time to time. The version on this page when you purchase is the one that applies to your order.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by New Zealand law.
